The investigation into the Club's history is has just started, so please be patiant as we look for some clues of who we are and when we came about.
We know that the Club has been known as Richmond AFC (1945), Cameron United (1960'S) and Young Conservatives (1960's), Richmond Town AFC and todays Richmond Town FC.
Football has been played on Earls Orchard for approximately 85 years. Even before this sport benefited from the area, when a local trainer with stables in York Square (now a car park) used the field for exercising his horses. Going back further into history we find the field was once an ancient jousting ground. A glance up at the mighty Norman Castle, will reveal the joist holes which supported the balcony from where the Earl and his court would watch the knights of old jousting on the green below, which is now our football pitch. So it can be seen that sport at Earls Orchard has some very long and historical roots.
The pavilion was opened on 2nd March 1975, by Jack Charlton OBE, who was at the time manager of Middlesbrough FC, Jack had played for Leeds United, for over 17 years and helped them win nearly every honour at club and European levels, his greatest moment must have been as a member of the England World Cup winning team in 1966.
Former players include Town legend Robert Harvey 'Bob' Ledger, who played for Huddersfield Town 1952-1962 (along side Dennis Law and Managed by the great Bill Shankley), Oldham Athletic 1962-1968, Mansfield Town 1968-1969 (as part of the famous team that knocked out Bobby Moore's West Ham United in the FA Cup) and later in the 70's for Richmond Town. John Peverell also played for the Town as well as making over 300 appearances for Darlington FC, he is a member of the Quakers Hall of Fame.
